Paxton & Whitfield Terms & Conditions


To minimise the time in transit of our food products, our delivery days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, between 8am and 6pm. Where appropriate to maintain optimum conditions we use chilled and insulated bespoke packaging. We deliver by overnight couriers to UK mainland addresses (excluding Highlands and Islands). At busy times of the year this service can take 2 days. Please ensure someone is available to receive, sign for and put your purchase in a cool place.

Delivery Lead Time

Our deliveries are next day from day of despatch. However we do require a lead time of one day before the despatch of the order.

Delivery Instructions

Increasingly customers seem to find it most convenient to have their parcels sent to a work address. If this is not possible you may, at your risk, write delivery instructions in the ‘Customer Message before check out, such as ‘leave in the garage if out’ (choose a cool place). If so, we cannot accept responsibility for the condition of the goods or non receipt. Any delay in despatch

and/or delivery, for whatsoever reason, shall not be grounds for a claim for consequential loss. Please note that by law, alcohol and the purchase of knives are only available for order by customers who are aged 18 or over.

Packing and Postage

For UK mainland delivery (excluding Highlands and Islands), there will be a £10.00 per UK delivery address. Paxton & Whitfield will not be held responsible for packages sent to incomplete/inaccurate addresses.

Substitutions, returns and cancellations

Part of the attraction of artisan food is that it varies from season to season, so please don’t expect a cheese enjoyed once to taste identical on subsequent purchases. From time to time we may not be happy with a particular product or it may not be available. In that case, we will substitute with something we consider equally good or better. Every care has been made to ensure accurate descriptions are used at the time of printing. All weights, colours and dimensions are approximate. Please notify us within 24 hours of anticipated delivery if you have not received the order or are unhappy with it in any way. Should you wish to return a product please telephone our Mail Order team. We are unable to accept the return of perishable products, however this does not affect your statutory rights. All orders accepted and supplied subject to our standard Terms & Conditions (available on request).

Cutting and Weights

Cutting cheese accurately to a given weight is a real art. We don’t use machines to cut the cheese-It is all done by our cheesemongers by hand. We always endeavour to get as close to the quantity Ordered as possible, if we go ‘under’ on one item we’ll try and make up for it on another. The same is true of individual cheeses, being handmade again the weights are approximate. One ‘whole truckle’ described as 1.8kg will be different to another and could be slightly more or less than that.

Shelf Life of Cheese

With individual cheeses you can expect a natural shelf life as indicated by the Use By/Best Before Date on the packaging. We endeavour to give a minimum of 7 days from the date of despatch.All cut cheeses are cut to order and will have approximately 12 days shelf life on them from the date the order is despatched.

Cancellation or Order

We reserve the right to accept an order or to cancel, once accepted, any order without penalty. You may cancel an order without penalty, provided we receive the notification a minimum of 4 days before the requested delivery date. All orders Accepted and supplied to our standard Terms & Conditions.


Risk of damage or deterioration to the goods supplied passes to the buyer on delivery. No claim for damage or deterioration after delivery can be accepted.

Pilferage and Damage

We can only accept claims for pilferage or damage if written notification is given to both the carriers and ourselves within three days of receipt of goods. If delivery is made by carriers please always sign for the goods ‘unexamined’ and retain the outer wrappings for examination by the carrier. If delivery is made on our own transport, the consignment should be checked and signed for accordingly.

Contract Terms

We shall supply goods only on the condition that these terms and conditions represent the entire agreement between ourselves and our customers and theses conditions supersede any prior agreement or arrangement.

Variations of Terms and Conditions

No variation may be made to these terms & conditions unless agreed in writing by a Director of Paxton & Whitfield Ltd. Orders placed by our customers shall be only on that basis that our customers acknowledge that they are not relying on any representation regarding goods supplied other than as may be in writing and signed by a Director on behalf of Paxton & Whitfield.
